When I lived in that little shack on the side of a hill Claudia had a litter of kittens and we kept the best two Big Pinky and Marcie who is my favorite of all, she is just really gentle and fearful and affectionate. They were a super team and really cute and used to lie together in a yin-yang configuration. Big Pinky was very large and gregarious and was the only cat I’ve ever seen with naturally pink fur, and Marcie was very shy but his constant sidekick. But when they were a few months old Big Pinky got horribly sick and died, and it was really terrible for everyone but especially for Marcie who didn't relate well to humans and didn't understand what happened and just hid out under the bed for weeks crying. But then one night she came out of her funk and climbed onto my chest and she's been there ever since. I guess she is a monogamous sort. But after the baby was born everything got turned upside down and Olga's cat started acting really aggressive towards everyone, and also we had to kick Marcie out of the bed because that's where Niko sleeps now. So about 3 months ago Marcie disappeared, ran off by the evil Houdini. She sometimes disappeared for a few days at a stretch but this time she never came back and I was devastated but also distracted by the new baby and so it was hard to do much about it. I feared that she was eaten by a coyote but also imagined her running through the Los Angeles night getting ever farther away. |
