Dear Diary,

I was out with a super-foxy girl and we ended the night in a swanky revolving cocktail lounge high above the city of angels. I had forgotten to mention that it revolved and she was delighted and I told her, Baby you didn’t think I was going to take you to a stationary cocktail lounge did you? It was at the Bonaventure Hotel which is surely the greatest place ever, the elevators start in the lobby then pop out of these holes in the roof and climb up the sides of the building. We kept riding them up and down pretending that we were going to crash into the glass ceiling and it was super fun. Also you could see into peoples hotel rooms which was an added benefit. Her name was Caroline and it turns out that she grew up on a Christmas-tree farm in New Hampshire and used to have pet bunnies and she knew a surprising amount about the Swiffer such as that it works by electrostatic action which is the same force that powers the common dryer-sheet. She said that girls who wear stockings know that to alleviate static cling you can rub them with a dryer-sheet. I’m no electrical engineer but it certainly sounded like an interesting experiment. There was a ring of stationary columns around the perimeter of the building that that we kept slowly revolving past and I told her that as an architect I had it on authority that structural rotating columns are a bad idea which seemed to impress her. Also there were these wooden racks next to the columns that we started hiding pretzels in because we thought it would be funny to see them again in an hour as we orbited the building – and we were right! She pointed out that the city existed as varying strata of beautiful sparkly lights - far below us car headlights crawled past luminous storefronts under a circulatory system of elevated freeways winding around the massive glittering skyscrapers while amongst them helicopters danced and swirled.
